Revitalized Medvedev Wins First Title in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.
Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.
Moutet saved four early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
